Fad Diets- Why Are They Bad?
Fad diets, why are they bad? We are presently in an obesity epidemic. All over the world, people are getting bigger, unhealthier, and yes, fatter. As the fast food industry has emerged over the past few decades, the obesity epidemic has skyrocketed, to say the least. As a result, ‘fad diets’ are emerging in new forms by the hour, minute, and even second. People are scrounging for different methods, routines, and ‘œquick fixes’ to achieve maximum weight loss, as fast as possible.
However, some vindictive and malicious, money-hungry dirt bags have known this for years. In their eyes, taking advantage of vulnerable people is merely a money maker. These thieves have been legally robbing people for years by discovering ‘new and improved’ ways of temporarily losing weight; the key here being that it is only temporary. All of these plans are too strict to be followed for the rest of your life and what happens when you go back to regular eating?
Fad diets, why are they bad? We are presently in an obesity epidemic. All over the world, people are getting bigger, unhealthier, and yes, fatter. As the fast food industry has emerged over the past few decades, the obesity epidemic has skyrocketed, to say the least. As a result, fad diets are emerging in new forms by the hour, minute, and even second. People are scrounging for different methods, routines, and quick fixes to achieve maximum weight loss, as fast as possible.
Here is the utmost truth no one else will tell you: you will lose weight with these dieting plans, but you will also gain it all back, plus a little more, as soon as you stop following their drastic guidelines. A lot of these diets make claims on effective ways to lose weight fast, but are nearly just a scam.
How do these crafty con-artists hurt you? Simply put, they fill you with false hope that you will lose and keep the weight off. In the beginning, everything is wonderful! You see rapid weight loss and your clothes are loose. Your friends and family notice this change and you might tell them all about this new ‘wonderful dieting plan.’ Like a virus, it spreads rapidly through word-of-mouth and before you know it, this new found diet is the latest fad.
The truth about fad diets is that you will always gain the weight back because you are merely losing water weight, not fat. The false hope they filled you with in the beginning turns to physical and emotional problems that will affect you for years to come. In the long run, the end result for the con-artist. l’ll call him Dr. Atkins is an immense amount of money that you will never get back. The end result for you is an immense amount of fat and a screwed up metabolism, which makes it even harder to lose the weight.
Fad diets often claim to be backed by scientific evidence, and always have over-enthusiastic testimonials to support them. If you look beyond those claims you will find them misleading and sometimes, nothing but direct lies or thinly veiled mistrusts. While these latest fads do eventually dissolve after being exposed, they will simply manifest into other “new and improved diets at a later date. Once again, you will fall for their claims only to find yourself even heavier once it has been exposed.
The cycle will never end unless you see these fast weight loss techniques as the misleading fad diets they actually are.
Fad Diets and Teenagers
By Emma Gibson

Teenage girls and diets go hand in hand, and so many times it is the fad diets and teenagers that is worrisome. There are so many different diets out there making incredible promises of dropping pounds and inches without having to change a thing in your life. Teenagers being as impatient as they are, especially when it comes to improving body image, will try anything that sounds quick and easy.
As parents, we need to make sure that our teenagers are doing everything they can to take care of themselves. This includes watching out for those fad diets that target teenagers. While not all diets are bad ones, the eating programs that guarantee immediate results with little to no effort, are definitely the ones to avoid.
Some of the most popular fad diets currently include diet pills. These pills range from totally worthless to very dangerous. The price tag is pretty steep for most of the “miracle” ones. Yet, everyday fad diets and teenagers make millions of dollars for the weight loss companies. Our society would have us believe that “thin is beautiful,” whether it is healthy or not.
Teenagers already have a hard time with self image just because they ARE teenagers. Even the most attractive kids can have poor self images. So if a teenager happens to be a few pounds over weight, the first thing they do is head to the diet counter. It doesn’t matter to them how they get the weight off, as long as it happens. They also don’t consider the fact that the faster the weight comes off, the faster it will reappear.
Not all diets are fads. Some are even good weight loss programs. Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig, and NutriSystem all have good success rates for people who use them to lose weight. However, fad diets attract teenagers more than structured systems. Losing weight takes time if it is done correctly and the weight will remain gone through a learned maintenance routine. But teenagers are not known for their patience.
There are things we can do to make sure our teenagers are healthy. What they eat when they are away from home is not something you can control. It is what they eat when they ARE at home that is important. Healthy eating habits should begin at home and if you have instilled some of these in your child, you will not have to worry so much about fad diets and YOUR teenager.

Fad Diets - Don’t Believe These 10 Diet Myths
Fad Diets - Don’t Believe These 10 Diet Myths

If your nutrition and weight-loss education comes mostly by way of fad diet books and magazine articles, you will believe 10 myths and to lose weight you need to get them out of your head.
Fad diets do not work period - So if you believe any of the following you need to change your view to lose weight.
1. Skipping meals helps you lose weight.
No it does not! it makes you hungrier as it creates huger cravings and actually causes you to over eat. You need to eat 5 meals a day.
2. Your metabolism is slower at night.
Your metabolism doesn’t slow down at night.
This fad diet myth comes from the fact that most people eat a larger proportion of calories in the evening and if your metabolism slows down then when you sleep these calories will turn to fat!
As your metabolism is not slower at night, it makes no difference when you eat - its the overall calories consumed that cause the damage not the time of day their eaten that matters.
3. Carbohydrates cause weight gain.
This is perhaps the most common fad diet myth. This myth has been promoted by high-protein fad diets on the market.
Carbohydrates are your body’s premier source of fuel. The thing to keep in mind with cards is good and bad ones and eat the good ones is the
Replace carbs with high sugar content (simple carbs) i.e biscuits and sweets with complex carbs: Fruit, vegetables whole-grain brown rice and cereal.
Not eating carbs will make you sluggish and irritable.
4. Lose weight is hard and a chore.
Well many fad diets are! As they deprive you of foods you love, their therefore hard to stick with.
Fact is we were never designed to be on fad diets. Dieting is all about balance and you can include any foods you love, but if there sugary or fat foods then you just need to eat them in moderation.
5. Fat free foods that are calorie free.
That low-fat label is by no means a license to over indulge
Many low-fat products are loaded with sugar to as a substitute for the missing fat, which means they are just as high in calories as the sugar is simply turned into fat!
6. No Snacks
If you have time to eat 5 meals a day you wont probably want to snack, if its three times a day a quick snack is a good idea.
At the end of the day, its total calories consumed in a day that counts not how you eat them.
A quick snack can help you stop overeating and keep your energy levels high.
7. Fat is bad for you
Fats are part of the natural food chain of humans and we all need a certain amount of fat to healthy, but we need good ones.
Bad fats increase the risk for certain diseases and good fats lower the risk. The key is to make sure your eating the right fats.
Fats that are actually healthy are referred to as “essential fatty acids.” These fats are required for overall health and lower risk of heart disease.
The reason oily fish is so good is that the essential fatty acids contained actually help your body burn fat more efficiently and protect against disease.
8. Cholesterol is bad for you
Cholesterol is a fatty substance that is made by the liver, we all need some blood cholesterol as it’s used to build cells and form hormones.
There is good and bad cholesterol.
Saturated fats in foods such as meat, cheese, cream, butter help raise LDL (low density lipoprotein) ‘bad cholesterol.’
This then delivers cholesterol to the arteries. HDL (high density lipoprotein) - or ‘good’ cholesterol - transports cholesterol away from the arteries and back to the liver.
Simply avoid this group or eat in moderation
9. Dairy products make you fat.
Combined with calorie control, a dairy-rich diet can nearly double body-fat reduction and help you lose weight longer term
The reason is they contain the hormone calcitriol, which helps conserve calcium for stronger bones while sending a message to fat cells to convert less sugar to fat and burn more body fat.
10. There is a short cut way to lose weight
This is the myth promoted by all fad diets you can lose weight quickly and be healthy ‘No you cant.’ Our bodies are not designed to crash diet and fad diets sound easy but people end up being disappointed.
The only way to lose weight is to do it slowly, with a balanced diet.
Forget fad diets and lose weight the right way.
